Hello all. I have to say, knocking down buildings with a backhoe is too much fun. And then chaining up huge sections of wall and dragging them off... Like I said, too much fun. The footings should be in by Thursday. Progress. -KJH Saturday, August 28, 2004
Mom wasn't at all nervous to fly. At least not as far as I could tell. I talked to her shortly before and shortly afterwards. We spoke of plane crashes of the past, and speculated on future catastrophes. She spoke of birds flying through the terminal and commented on how that was a sign of death. Not at all nervous. Timo and I are going to work toward building that new shed at his place this next week. It should be fun. Talk to everyone later. -KJH Thursday, August 26, 2004
I have been on a United trip, and we fly all over the East Coast. I have been flying out of Washington Dulles. It is fun to see DC, and Annapolis from the air. I keep flying on the same route out North of Annapolis South of Baltimore, and then up over New York City. It is fun. When I am stationed in Richmond I will Hub out of Baltimore and I will even have Overnights to Baltimore fairly often. I am thinking I will live in Richmond. It will be nice to live really close to work, although we will see how much time I spend there. -KJH Tuesday, August 24, 2004
It's true I could bike and I hope I can. I have signed up to ride the Seagull Century with Dave Haber on October 9th. We are going to try the 100 mile option. If you remember last time Melina and I did the 100km one. It should be good. I've picked more mushrooms. I'm drying them now so they'll last through the year. Thursday, August 19, 2004
That Visa stuff is too bad. It seems kind of stupid considering her kids are US citizens. What if they decided to keep Mom out of the Country? I guess if her green card lapsed... I am on my third to last trip on the jet. It's kind of wierd thinking about that. I will miss it, that's for sure. But it will be nice to get the Pilot in Command time. That is my ticket out of here, and on to bigger and better things. -KJH Wednesday, August 18, 2004
Hello all. I've got my first interview all set. It's about as early as I can get, since it's for Tuesday the 7th at 10am. I'm glad. Best of all, the company is in Annapolis and has seemed very interested in me. Plus, my desired salary is not out of line with their budget. So here's hoping for quick work... On the visa front, we suffered our first setback because I don't have three years worth of tax returns. So I need to get a co-sponsor for Melina. We aren't thrilled about that. Since my income was Finnish and I didn't owe US taxes I didn't think they mattered. (I was wrong.) Apparantly only US documents can verify to the Consulate my income over the last three years. Kind of stupid since Finnish tax office statements would be more reliable than my self-filled returns. But these rules apply to the whole world so I'll just have to deal with it. I will be moving to the East Coast sometime near the end of October. I am thinking of right in Richmond at first. Maybe, to scope things out, but we will see... -KJH Tuesday, August 17, 2004
Congratulations, Keith. Does that mean you'll be moving out there? Will the commute be harder to Richmond? I was awarded a Captain Class starting September 17th. I will be going to Richmond, and I will be about number 18 on the seniority list of34 Captains. The lines aren't bad either. I will have a minimum of 13 days off a month. -KJH Thursday, August 12, 2004
Hello all. It was fun having Keith and Timo here. The day Timo left the rain returned. It's been good, whether it was the beach in Lauttasaari, the kauppatori, Tervasaari, sightseeing in Tallinna, mushroom picking in Sipoo or just biking around Helsinki. I forgot to tell you mom that we saw a kyykäärme (an adder) after we finished picking the kanterelli. I saw it on an old stump, which it retreated under when I called Timo and Melina. Timo then pulled the stump over so I could get a picture. It was surprisingly long. Yesterday, a thunderstorm just before our last game of the year (it's not a regular season game, but the Suomi Cup) buried the whole infield in water. Starting 45 minutes late, after the drains had sucked down most of the water, we played well, but not well enough to win. Time is flying. I'll talk to you all later. Tuesday, August 10, 2004
I got out of Finland okay. In fact I got a First Class seat. That was kind of nice. When I got on the 65 Bus, I put my card up and hit Zone 2, and the green and yellow light flashed as usual, but when I went to the 615 only the green light beeped when I held my card up. The bus driver asked me if I was going to the airport and I said "yes". He then told me that it needed to make two beeps, and I told him I had pushed the 2 button on the other bus. He said, "I don't care what you do, I only have to tell you." I got on the bus. I wonder if I should have hit the 3 button. Oh well, I am home in Utah. Talk to everyone later. -KJH I just finished up packing. It has been fun here in Finland. I hope I get home smoothly. Tallinn was fun yesterday. Olde Haunsa was good as always. The games have been fun, although Timo got lucky and won Princes of Florence. Talk to everyone later. -KJH Saturday, August 07, 2004
Hello from Finland. It has been a great time here. We have enjoyed many Lihapiiraka. We tried to go to Suomenlinna today, but the boats were packed full and we decided against it and went to a park on an island called Tar Island. It was nice. On Monday we go to Tallin. That should be fun too. Hope all are well. Talk to everyone later. -KJH Tuesday, August 03, 2004
Hello All, Timo and I have been enjoying the Southampton scene with Mom. We all went sailing on a litte Sailboat of Dorian's. It was a lot of fun. Timo and I also went looking at Yachts, but the biggest they had was 33 feet. It has been fun. Talk to everyone later. -KJH |
