Hi Everyone,

We had a great time in Cincinnati this past weekend. We celebrated Keith's birthday with a cake and a game of settlers. It was alot of fun to see my sister and her family. Timo, Keith and I are going over to Clay's Thursday night to play. Clay said he was going to call you. It should be lots of fun. Anyways, spring semester has started today, I wish I had a few more days off, oh well. Did any of you hear about the earthquake in Atlanta? 4.9 on the scale. My mom woke up to the house shaking at five in the morning. It freaked her out. There are never earthquakes down there. Anyways, Not much else going on. :) Love, Amanda

It turns out of the three people killed I knew of one and knew another. One Jared Jorgensen was frequently posting notes on my UVSC online class bulletin boards. He was an online student too. And Micheal Burke checked me out in a Cessna-172 last May. Both Clay and I flew with him for my checkout which involved three touch and go landings. Sad thing.

That first quote also mentions Alpha radiation by the thousands. There was a plane crash in Provo yesterday. A twin Cessna with two instructors and a student were killed. The aiplane was from Advantage Aviation, where I got my Private Pilots license and where I normally rent from. It happened at 5:30 PM and I just happened to call at 6:30 or so, because I wanted to get a printout of my activities from the last year so I can fill in Clay's logbook. The guy was a little distraught, and no wonder. What a terrible thing. Here's the article.

Had the good fortune of smashing my finger today while tearing down a garage with Mark. It continued to hurt excessively for hours, so I went to Timo and we x-rayed it. Yep, it is in pieces, right on the tip of my right pointing finger. Always fun.

For the curious, bits on DU:

"Rokke and his crew were measuring significant levels of radiation up to 50 meters away from affected tanks: up to 300 millirems an hour in beta and gamma radiation, and alpha radiation from the thousands to the millions in counts per minute (CPM) on a Geiger counter." From Lee's article. I like the use of the "up to" in that quote.


"400 Natural background radiation in Denver each year." Thats 400 millirems is the norm in Denver, from here.

It appears there is nothing as effective as Depleted Uranium in warfare. Rokke's situation is sad. I am curious about the 90,000 troops said to have side effects. I wonder how many are from DU. I am not entirely convinced that DU is as terrible as they say. I think the danger of using a microwave or just living in Denver are as great. I also wouldn't put it past the Pentagon to lie to the public. So... Interesting articles Lee.

Hello all. Sounds like you guys had some great fun down South in the Cold country. I got to battle the weather this weekend, and face hundreds of grumpy passengers. It was fun. I thought we were going to get hit by lightning when all our radios were so full of static, but the bolts only went off nearby. It was fun. A bit bumpy and all around a good time. The passengers loved it too. Several airplanes had shot that same gap in the weather with success. There were a lot of thunderstorms near St. Louis. Anyway, take care all.
