I try not to bore people with baseball ;) Anaheim's win in game 6 was amazing. They are a fun team because you really can never count them out. I also loved thinking back on the preseason picks and how they were picked to finish last in their division, etc... Did you see any Stingers games this summer?

We played some good Carcassone last night. Mom had some strange ideas about the rules. I don't know if it was Lee's influence or Matildas. I won one game. Amanda won one, and Timo and Michael tied on the other game.

It was fun. Sarges Heros was back to normal last night. I burned, blew up, and gunned down many army guys. The pumpkin Amanda carved was cool. And Anneli made one with mice in the front and a Cat shadow behind it that was amazing.

Bye for now.

Hey Amanda,
If you're in Atlanta on Monday night I'd recommend seeing a Calexico live at the Echo Lounge. Here's their song Crystal Frontier. But I guess you'll be headed home by then.

Hey Ya'll,
School is keeping me very busy.
I am going to Atlanta this weekend, Thursday to Monday. I am so excited, I haven't been home in a while. I am hoping Keith can go with me. There is an English Horn convention that my teacher wants me to go to. I might go to some of it but I really want to spend the time with my family. Anyways, talk to you all later, See you tonight Timo. :)

Those Pumpkins are cool. Maybe we will get to carve one tonight. Mom and I were just checking out Interline Discounts I get as an airline employee(and Mom too). There were great cruises for 7 days. Prices as low as $300. Mom was looking for one in Hawaii. We found a 10 day for $870. That was for April, the same cruise was $300 for next month. I guess the short notice.

Talk to everyone later.
-KJH

Matilda began swimming lessons last night. She's been counting the days for two weeks. They splashed around in the pool with an instructor, but I didn't see much else happen. I guess it's to get them used to water splashing into their faces; something Matilda seemed confident doing there, though it's been a problem in the past.

Cindy, did Shandra get a role in the play? What play is it?

Those are nice pumpkins. I fixed your link in the last post so it opens up now. You had a space in the address between "timo22222/" and "Halloween.html" I also put after the address: target="new". This opens the page in a new window.

I am surprised how common celebrating Halloween has become here. The stores even sell a few pumpkins. I think we'll be getting one today. I guess it's trendy right now. I wonder if it will stick.

Has anyone asked Mark why he hasn't joined? Is he really busy or something?

Hello everyone,

Timo, Amanda, and I played Carcassone the other night and Timo was lucky enough to win twice. We also had some incredible battles in Sarges Heros. And finally a stunning win, by myself, in Mario Golf. That is the weekend report.

Amanda and I are getting ready to go to a progressive dinner ending with desert at the church. It should be fun. It is nice to be home for the weekend. IT was nice to see a note from you Cindy, and maybe we will see you this weekend. If not, we will see your next post in the near future.

For those interested, we live between the "U" and "T" of "Lauttasaari".

Melina took Owen by cab. The poliklinikka is in Meilahti. If our local terveysasema had been open we could have take him there, but it was not. Owen cried, form what Melina said, while they pressed the cut together, but otherwise seemed ok. It's not too big of a deal. The neighbors must have thought we were killing our kids, though. Earlier in the night we were trying to pop some of Matilda's Molluscum bumps which the doctor said shouldn't hurt, plus we put a numbing cream on them, but she cried bloody murder anyway. Owen cried, too, out of sympathy. What a racket. Then not an hour later Owen splits his eye. He wasn't doing anything dangerous. In fact, it's funny that all day long he pulls these dangerous stunts, (you're sure he's going to kill himself at least three times a day), and nothing happen, but then something seemingly harmless does the trick.

I bought the Chronicles of Narnia and bagen reading that to Matilda. She's excited about it. She saw the movie of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" at a friends and anticipates it. The book is all seven volumes in one big book. But instead of starting with "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" it starts with "The Magican's Nephew", since it is the first chronologically. I never liked the books as a kid, (which used to make Keith mad), the seem alright now. I am sure Matilda will love them. And one thing in their favor is they have girl characters. Matilda asked me why there were no girls in "The Hobbit".

I am back in Utah. I was able to do my LOFT last night as originally planned. It looks as though I will be here until Monday at least. I wish you guys could see the Simulators. The visuals are amazing. The blue sky and clouds look so real. And at dusk with the strip of dark blue sky on the horizon and the stars peeking out behind puffs of clouds... It looks so real. Last night we flew into Boston(in the SIM) and you could see the the skyscrapers lit up. The harbour dark and amazingly real. It astounds me. I wish you guys could see it.

I hope Owen is okay. It always seems that the one year olds enjoy beating themselves up. I remember Daniel, and Amanda and my nephew, Jake. Poor beat up little kids. Anyway, so long, and it is good to be home.

-KJH

Another day, another trip to the poliklinikka. Owen had just run up to Melina, given her a kiss goodnight. He looked so cute. He turned to run to the bedroom when he flew forward and hit his eye on our Ikea chair's foot rest. Blood pour everywhere from a centimeter long gash. They've glued him up and things look ok. I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend.

Looking for a list of careers I found this site with just the kinds of lists I was looking for. I found the related majors for poets/lyricists particularly interesting. Take a look.

Stripper is also an option for "Career industry: Arts and Humanities"

That's what I thought, but you used words like "flying" and "airplane" so I wondered if I had it right.

It is the coldest October in a hundred years here. It was the warmest September in a hundred years. The combination makes for a jerky transition. The edge of the sea is already crusty with ice. I imagine it will thaw out soon to give us one last glimpse of warmth before the winter, but until then.... Buurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

No, the checkride was in the simulator. They are very effective. Like I said, the first time I actually fly the airplane is with paying passengers on board. A little crazy.

-KJH

Did you do the checkride in a plane? It wouldn't be much of a ride if it not.

The Checkride was fine. As is normal for me and checkrides, I flew worse than I have ever flown before. Only on one approach really. The examiner seemed pleased with my performance however and that's that. My Sim partner failed his. I was worried about him anyway. Unfortunately, this also affects me. I will be flying with him tonight to do his retraining, and I will have to wait to do my worthless, "Line Oriented Flight Training"(LOFT). So I will not be home on Thursday. I hope I am home Friday, but who knows when they will be able to squeeze me in. Mike will retrain tonight, and probably recheck Thursday, so... That means maybe LOFT will be Friday??? Who knows. Too bad for Mike. And even too bad for me.

Mom, I am anxious to see a post from you to see how your flight was. I actually didn't sweat to much in my airplane ride. I sweat more before it. See you all later.

-KJH

Working from home today I was able to see Matilda lose her first tooth. At lunch she bit into some day old baguette made the tooth wiggly and wobbly to the point of falling out. An after lunch gum did the trick to bring it out, though she'd declined having me pull it out for her. It was nice to be home and see it.

Congratulations, Keith. That's good news, but I was sure you'd do it.

I do hope your meat is good, Tiina. After all that happened it would be terrible to have to toss the meat. I hope Anaheim wins, too, but last year it was not an East Coast affair. It was New York vs. Arizona. Luis Gonzales hit the game winning single off the previously flawless Mariano Rivera. The year before that was the New York "subway series". But, as Melina would say, enough baseball!

Checkride went well. I am relieved. I will write more tomorrow.
-KJH

Hey ya'll,

Just got back from sin city on Sunday. We had a great time at the convention. I learned so many new techniques for playing and met alot of very good oboe players.

Timo, that is so terrible about the horse. Are you going to get another one? Well, Keith is planning on coming home on Thurs. afternoon. We should get together and play some games with you and Tuula.

Not much else going on, just very busy with school.

Talk to ya'll later
Amanda

That is the airplane. I will try to take a picture of the simulator with Brians digital camera. I looked at Flight Safety's website, but there was only a dinky picture at the top of a simulator. The Sims are pretty big, they have a complete cockpit in them, a station for the instructor to manipulate the computer, and a seat for an observer. The cockpit is exact, and there is a huge wrap around screen, a few feet outside the windshield, that covers 180' of vision. The whole thing sits up on giant hydraulic arms. And it moves up/down/side to side/front to back. The tilt is probably only 20-30 degrees. But most flying is done with positive G's so its not hard to simulate.
I tried yesterday to vidoe tape my flight, but it only recorded the audio.

-KJH

Good luck on the check ride, Keith. I just left Mom at the airport. She's got one heavy bag and one heavier bag. It was nice having her here for so long.

Is the ERJ 145 the plane you're going to fly?

Wow, don't tell anyone it's your first time flying that thing. It's amazing how good they can make simulators though. I imagine fuel costs, not to mention having an airplane that isn't making money, would be too much to allow for actual training. How much movement does the simulator actually make? Is it in a big hanger or something?

Normally when people crash the Sim it is in a situation of little to know hope. These are extreme failures that could happen but probably never will. This will comfort Mom. If you get a Rudder Runaway below 10,000 more than likely you are going to crash, and it will be spectacular. If the roll trim runs away, same thing. If you encounter windshear on approach, there is a chance of crashing. That is the result of actual crashes. There have been a couple Rudder hardover's on the 737 in its lifetime. One guy flipped the 737 because of a rudder hardover at 3---- and recover after losing almost 20,000 feet of altitude. So these things can happen, and if they do.... Good luck. We practice them in the Sim, but they are not gradable manuevers. If you crash during routine operations, then the company will be very unhappy.

My friend Brian's Sim partner was let go last year during their training because of a very poor showing in the Sim. He lost control once for no apparent reason, they were spiralling towards the ground. Brain braced himself for impact. And his Sim partner recovered the airplane. The Instructor said, "Wow, good recovery." It was an amazing recovery even though he never should have been in that situation. The student turned and said, "Thanks," lost control and crashed.

The first time I fly the actual airplane will be with Passengers on board. The IOE is with an instructor who sits as Captain for me and we just do normal flying. The Simulators are amazing. It is just like being in the airplane. There is a 180' of view. When you put the throttles forward you are pushed back in your seat. When you brake hard and put out the reversers, you hang on the seat belts. It is very realistic.

Too bad about the fines Dave. Was that the land you actually got the one Elk on? So long all, and talk to you later.

-KJH

Sunday, October 20, 2002

Keith, what do you do during the IOE time? At dinner tonight, mom said you haven't even flown the jet you're to fly. Is the simulator good enough experience?

Glad you made it out of Florida, Timo. They say all nuts roll down hill, that's why they end up in Florida. How'd you escape?

Saturday, October 19, 2002

I was just talking about your simulator training with Melina today. We wondered what would happen if you crashed it. So, are there any penalties for crashing? Do they rethink your employment? I am really excited that you are so far along with it all. It seemed like everything was working against you flying for a while.

Congratulations on the elk and the DOW fine. It's a quinella. Out of bankruptcy, way to go...

Tonight after dinner, Owen kept trying to take his plate off the table. Since there was still food on it, I kept stopping him. Finally, curious why he was so persistant and just what he had in mind, I let him take the plate. After dropping a few pieces on the way, he opened the cupboard beneath the sink, scraped his plate (well, jingled it sideways until everything fell off it), and brought it back to the table. He put it into the dishwasher when I opened it for him. He likes to clean up. One of his favorite "jobs" is taking his diaper to the diaper trash when we change him.

Talk to everyone later. (It seems trendy today to end with that.)

I can definately fly through Denver sometime in the next couple weeks. I will be in Utah on Thursday next week. Maybe only for a day, but we shall see, maybe all weekend. Amanda went with two friends who play oboe, and she drove. The one friend who plays oboe has family they are staying with and they are all chipping in for gas. As far as my pay goes... I have a minimum hour gaurantee, so no matter what I get paid a certain amount. Which goes up after I am completed with Training. If I go over those hours then I get whatever hours I actually flew. The current lines are supposed to be 80-85 hours, but the 17 in St. Louis are all over 90 hour lines. That means there should be more lines anyway, but... If you bid and get a line that has 93 hours(or any hours) you are gauranteed 95% of those hours no matter what happens. If weather shuts down the airports, maintenance, or whatever. If you fly only 60 hours you get paid 88 or 89 hours, whatever 95% of 93 is.

Anyway, things are good here. I saw the Red screen in the simulator for the first time. My sim partner crashed. We hit windshear after takeoff and... It wasn't a violent crash. My friend Brian has actually hurt his back in a Sim Crash. The Sim can really move. He hurt his back when they fell from altitude for some reason, the Sim just dropped on impact from the 10-15 feet or so it sets. We are strapped in like we are really in an airplane, in fact we have 5 point seat belts.

Talk to everyone later.

-KJH

Hey Amanda, can oboes drive or will you have to drive both oboe friends all the way?

PM - Post Meridian. Looks like good old CHS failed you, Keith. I am glad you passed. If you're flying more, do you make more money? It was kind of crazy how it worked, so I don't remember the details of your pay. I can't even tell you the details of my own.

It's cold here. It reached 0c today. Flurries and a cold wind. Wow. I can't wait until May, when it will be a little warmer.

Just looking at the messages on TSAlounge.com, and it looks as though the FO's in STL are understaffed. There are 17 hard lines, and 16 First Officers. That means we are very short considering there should be a few reserve officers, just in case. Things might be good if this is true. I will be flying like crazy and never sit on Reserve. I hope it pans out that way.

-KJH

Hello all,
Tuula, Thank you for letting me stay at your place, it was so nice to be close to campus.

I am going to Las Vegas for the weekend to an Oboe convention. My teacher asked if I wanted to perform there and I jumped at the chance to. I am driving down with 2 of my oboe friends. We will be back Sunday night.

I hope all is well, talk to you all later,
Amanda

Hi all,

Mom, I set my alarm for 6:45 PM by accident. Horrible time to do something stupid like that. I am glad I woke up at 8:15 AM it is so dark in my room. Anyway, it went well, and even my friend Brian passed his oral today. All is well on the training front. I should be done next week and then IOE (initial operating experience) soon thereafter. Talk to you all later.

-KJH

Well, the oral went well. I set myself up for failure by setting my alarm for 6:45 PM to get ready for the 8:00 AM oral. I awoke at 8:15 and made it to Flight Safety only 25 minutes late. Paul (my examiner) was very kind and hardly mentioned the fact that I was late. I had actually parked behind Paul the night before at Larry's (he lives there too) and Paul used the grass to exit the driveway on his way out. All in all, the Oral went well. I am relieved that it is done. The flight portion should not be too terrible. I will at least know exactly what will be asked of me.

Take care all, and I will talk to you later.

-KJH

I thought those initials looked familiar. Good luck on the oral. You'll do fine.

And yes, Mom will be back on Tuesday the 22nd. Late. I think she might be looking for a way home, too.

Every night this summer when putting Matilda to sleep we'd look out the window and watch the swallows dart through the sky. When the swallows left, and it would've been too dark to see then anyway I said, "Let's look at the swallows." Matilda of course said, "It's too dark to see any swallows." To which I replied, "What'd you mean, the sky is black with them." A slightly altered exchange of this has now become a nightly ritual. Matilda speeds through her questions expecting the correct replies. This is added to her bedtime inventory of water bottle and stuffed lamb, and her requirement of classical music. Sometimes I wonder why she needs all these things.

Owen has become a big kisser. The boy likes to kiss everyone. He thinks it's great.

Hope all is well.

Cindy signed CHS! That was nice to put in that plug for Lee, and my High School. Nice to see you with us Cindy. I moved into Larry Rennicks place last night. It is a room in the basement and it was pretty nice. The bed is lousy, but I still slept great on it. The nice thing was the dark. It only has two tiny windows that have been covered with cardboard. I woke up at 8AM and thought it was still the middle of the night.

So Tiina, do you get a share of the Bull or just what they give you? I'm sure there will be plenty of meat, especially if they get the two cows. I will be by to eat sometime soon :) I believe Mom flies home on the 22nd. That is the day of my checkride. So Mom, you won't be the only one sweating in an airplane that day. Tomorrow is my Oral. Here's hopin'.

Talk to you all later.

-KJH

Hey Cindy! Great of you to join us. Sorry on the invite I used an outdated name. Congratulations.

Well, it seems Dave is now the Great White Hunter. I can smell the elk steak.

We had some snow over the night, about 1cm on the grass. We went from an Indian Summer to wintery temperatures almost over night. On the plus side, maybe the trumpet chanterelles are out. (They are, I bought some at the store. Expensive this year, but I've been missing the wild mushroom flavor so I couldn't resist.)

Tiina, Matilda still likes her horse, but Owen loves it. Though to be honest, he uses it as a mop. I'm sure in time he'll start riding it. But not before the floors are clean.

And Cindy, a team of third-graders could have shut out Baltimore this September. What a lousy ending to what had been a pleasant year. Anaheim cannot be stopped, after all, they have the Rally Monkey.

Those pictures were great. I only got to look at the group of kids in the larger picture because it wouldn't let me back to the site for some reason. Something about the site exceeding its allocated data transfer. Those pictures of Owen were good too. Talk to everyone later.

Matilda's party went well. I am trying to upload some photos of it now to my geocities site, but it's taking some time and I am very tired right now. Mark Collier (you should remember him, Tiina) and I watched the Anaheim Angels beat the Twins and win the AL pennant. He's been an Angels fan his whole life so seeing them finally clinch a pennant was exciting for him. We watched it live over the internet.

Ok, they're there. I have some more photos I'd promised earlier, but still haven't done it.

Hey all,

The first day of Simulator went well. The airplane is very easy to fly. Steep turns were all too easy. My approach was even good, but my landing needs work. All in all, I am happy with the way it went. Today we will have various failures. It should be okay, but we shall see. I am excited to get done with training. I hope Matildas Birthday was fun. This last party anyway. Take care all. Talk to you all later.

I heard about the explosion in Helsinki too, just before I went out the door this morning. I saw a bit at Flight Safety about it too. Who wants to bomb Finland? Sounded horrible. Anyway, uneventful here in St. Louis. Happily through my first day in the Cockpit Trainer. Tomorrow a full motion Simulator. No emergencies though, so that should be fun. The tough stuff starts Monday.
I will talk to you all later.
-KJH

Enjoy St. Louis. Florida, Timo. Denver, Tiina. Oulu, Mom.

Matilda often "wakes up" at night and wanders aimlessly through the house searching for the bathroom. Last night she did it once, then a second time actually made the turn to the bathroom. I thought she was going to get it right. Instead, she kept on going straight out the front door and onto the landing. I had to reel her in and guide her to the correct destination. I guess we need to keep the door bolted from now on. I'm glad we were still up or who knows what would have happened.

Today we will have Matilda's Masquerade birthday party. She's very excited.

Bye Salt Lake City,
I am off to St Louis right after I sign off this. Have fun in Orlando Timo. Talk to you all sometime soon.
-KJH

Oh, about Chicago: I am not going to Chicago any time soon. I took the Foreign Service Exam in September and if I pass I will take the oral assessment in Chicago at a date they specify. I will find out in December if I passed or not. I think I will. I have passed before and I don't think I did any worse this time, but you never know. If I go to Chicago, I will come to Utah for a quick visit, too.

I thought High Uinta High was a bit slow the first few times I listened to it, too, but it's grown on me. I think it has some good images of Utah. "The shot up stop sign" is perfect.

The Singer/songwriter of Cub Country also plays bass for Jets to Brazil (which is more of a post-punk group). Their song Your X Rays Have Just Come Back From The Lab And We Think We Know What Your Problem Is may not be their best song, but maybe is the best titled one. Starry Configurations is another typical example of their style.

Good to see your posts Tiina. It sounds like you're busy. If you didn't have a car your girls would be bored by the Light Rail. These days Matilda is so used to public transportation she has preferred bus routes. "I don't want to take that 65a! Let's take the 20." Which of translates to "I don't want to walk home from 65a's bus stop. The 20's is right outside our building."

Hello again all,

I am once again at the Provo Library. I have many things to know before the 17th. That is when I am taking my Oral Test. It shouldn't be too bad. Memorizing all of the "flows" and preparing for the oral is quite a bit though. It will be nice to be in the simulator and tie all of the things that I have learned together. I have 5 Sim sessions before my oral.

Timo calls it beginners luck, but I am sure there is another explanation for my success at Carcassonne. It was a fun game even with just Timo and me. It was close. I dominated most of the game and almost lost because of Timo's sneaky farmer placement. It came down to the last two tiles and Timo chose the wrong one! It was fun.

Not anytime soon, but I think that 100MB would be nice to get. I am at a library so I didn't try those music options, but tonight at home I will.

Tiina, I can get buddy passes on Trans States Airlines for whoever. Only like 1 per quarter, or something stupid like that, but if we fly in to Colorado that would tie you in to the midwest. It would be nice. I don't know if they cost, or really anything about them. We shall see.

-KJH

Oh yeah, Mom is at Veijo's and doesn't have web access. I don't know if Tiina's been visiting silently or not, but she was the first of you to join! I'm still waiting for Mark and Cindy.

Hey Timo, if you don't publish your note it will not show up on the actual website unitl someone else post and publishes something. So hit the "Post & Publish" button. I don't know why it matters.

Keith, we have no space right now. Or rather, just space for text. If we want to buy space, we can get 100mb for $100 a year. Or you could link to a site like this song by Cub Country called High Uinta High. This should start playing straight off in your Windows Media player. But the song needs to be online somewhere. Another song I like is by Pedro the Lion. This is from his latest album. His previous albums have been slower paced, but it's all good.

Lee, here is our address:

3820 S 2780 E
Salt Lake City, UT 84109

hello,
I am in the Provo Library. I got in last night around 9pm. I have my Simulator starting Saturday. It is going to be an intense two weeks. I have no break again until after October 23. But if all goes well, I will be done then. Hopefully I can get my 20 hours of Initial Operating Experience (IOE) done before November. Then I will be a line qualified Airline Pilot for the first time in my life. My pay will go up a bit too. That'll be nice. I need to study these two days pretty hard and Friday night I hope to go to Flight Safety in St Louis and go through my "flows" in a big replica of the airplane. Then Saturday I will be ready for the training.
Lee, is there any way to post MP3 files on this web thing? How much space do we have?
Timo, give me a call when you have a chance. I have my cell phone with me. We were thinking of stopping by after Amanda gets out of class tonight. It would be after 7PM. Let me know. Anyway, back to studying. Talk you all later.
-KJH

We played Carcasonne tonight, too. Matilda won by about 10 points. I said to Melina, "She wins because we all give her advice, so she has three brains working for her." But you're right, the luck, combined with the advice makes it a fun game for everyone. I still haven't figured out if there's a sure fire strategy, but I think there is a good way to play, but it's never the same twice.

Owen has been labelled a hooligan at this "kid park" he and Matilda goes to on Wednesdays while Melina goes to class. But I think she said that because he cried after Melina left this time and didn't stop. Not even Matilda could cheer him up today. Oh well, I got a laptop yesterday at work and I think I might be able to work from home for an afternoon a week. We'll see.

Hi everyone,
Keith and I had a great time in St. Louis. We went to a BBQ on Friday night and then his company's picnic on Saturday. There was alot of great free food.

We also went to the St. Louis Zoo. My favorite place was the snake house. Those snakes were huge! It made me shiver just looking at them. They also had these huge turtles, and aligators.

Well,I'm hoping Keith can make it Tuesday night. Have you gotten that game yet Timo?
Talk to you all later,
Love,
Amanda

Well, one party down, one more to go. The family installment went as smoothly as it could. The tacos turned out well, the cake Mom brought was very good. The apartment didn't feel three times too small to hold the ruckus (just two times), and nothing was broken. Of course, how do you know it's a party if nothing gets broken? Next Saturday we have the friends installment. The place should really be crazy then. Matilda wanted a masquerade. She'll be Zorro. I asked her once if Zorro watched TV, but she said he was too busy saving people. We've had slush/hail/snow a couple times now, but I haven't been able to get out to Nuuksio the local national park to look for Trumpet Chanterelles. Too much longer and their time will pass, though their time only passes when they get covered by snow.

I have some party pictures I will post on my geocities site tomorrow. Until then...

By the way, has anyone talked to Mark? He hasn't joined.

Hi all,
Just came back with Amanda to Salt Lake for a quick afternoon at home. The flights were pretty empty. I was just going to walk her to the gate, but then I called and asked how much room owas on the returning flights, and there was plenty. I only had 4 hours here, but Timo is on his way to play a game. I should be back in Salt Lake on Tuesday night if I am lucky, and then back to St. Louis on Friday. Anyway, talk to you all later. Happy BIrthday Matilda.

Hello all,

I am already out of class for today. After the long night we were given a break. I will try and post a picture on here of my class out at the airplane last night. It will be a little later on, my friend Brian took the picture with his digital camera. Amanda gets in in a little over an hour. I am going to head over to the airport and meet her at the gate. I will also check on my uniform location and get a SLC Airport parking pass while there.

Everyone at Trans States has to get a Restricted Radio License. It is only needed for international flights. Additionally, we all need current passports. Considering we fly regionally, this is a little odd. I don't think Canada really requires the FCC radio license, but... That would be our likely international destination. I called the FCC to ask if an Amatuer Technician License would qualify me for the Restricted Radio License, but no, they just want their 50 bucks. Pretty useless license. All you do is send in a form with $50. I guess it is just revenue for them.

Tiina, I don't know if I told you, but there is a possibility of a TSA route to Colorado Springs, or even Denver. That would be cool. It would be great to overnight there. Hopefully the rumors prove true. Currently, Houston, and Dayton Ohio are the only confirmed new City's for the first few jets. I tried out the FMS program in class, and made a flight plan to Provo. We put in a 120 Knot headwind, and ended up using 500lbs of our Reserve Fuel in the EMB-145 ER. Our EMB-145 LR's could make in with over 1500lbs of fuel extra. So provided the winds aren't too bad, and no alternate is needed, Salt Lake (or Provo) is a possibility for our airplanes. The trip back to St. Louis would be a piece of cake with the Strong tailwinds possible.

Settlers would be fun by email. Let me know how and I would play. We need to play online again sometime soon. You guys need to play Conquerors while I am away : ) Anyway, I will talk to everyone later.

Hello All,
$13 is a great price for a game so highly rated. Check out Boardgamegeek.com and see the reviews there, and the top games. It is a good sight. I am going to the airport tonight with my class for "Doors" training. We will open all the doors on the aircraft, and go over the walk around procedure, and play in the cockpit a little bit. We are leaving for the airport at 9:30 PM. Maybe around 2:00 AM we will be done. I haven't had time to call you Mom, so maybe tonight I will borrow Lukes cell and call you with my card. It is that AT&T one. It is a good rate.

Also Mom, I found out that despite the"no" in the American Agreement, Parents can get 4 passes a year at Me and Amandas rate. It's only $24 Round-trip. Of course, you would have to fly American, but you can't beat the price. I may even be able to get you First Class on them. Amanda has each time she has flown.

It looks like I will be starting my Simulator training on the 12th. That is a Saturday. It will be a short break. That means I should be out flying pretty soon. Maybe before the end of October. I won't hold my breath, but that would be great.

Good-bye and hopefully this post works with the website thing.

(I had to edit it twice.)

By the way, would anyone be up for Settlers by email? There are some places that talk about it, but I am not sure of the details. If there's interest we could find out more.

Keith, your link posts are missing two crucial things: 1) the "http:\\" in front, 2) an actual link. The "a" tags go around a word or phrase and make that phrase into a link for specified "src". As administrator I can edit all of your posts. I changed your first link attempt by adding "this" as the link text. Check it out by trying to edit it yourself and you'll see what I mean. I'd write it out here, but Blogger thinks its real and tries to implement it.

Timo, you're right, I'm happy with the traffic we're generating. It's a pretty easy way to keep in touch. Now we need to get Mark and Cindy on board. Amanda, I sent you an invitation of your own, do you want another so you can have your own Blogger identity? How else should I invite? I need email addresses for that.

I just looked on Gamesurplus.com and saw carcassonne for $13. That's great.

oh well

It didn't work, the website is gamesurplus.com. I will try that one way, one more time too. Here goes: gamesurplus.com

I had the Game Surplus website in the last post, but it must've been deleted from that sentence that makes no sense. Here it is:

I hope that works.

Lee,

Here are our phone numbers, 801-688-6444cell and 801-998-4042home.

All,

The website Amanda was talking about was this. It is a great cheap source for games. I don't know about shipping to europe. The training was slow today. We are going over the Flight Mangagement System, and for some reason, each of us need to actually operate this computer program and demonstrate we can use it. With 18 people it is taking a long time. We all do exactly the same basic thing too. Tomorrow we have about 12 more to go through it. I guess I will get a good day of review in. I also learned today that the FMS will not couple with the Auto Pilot for Vertical Navigation. That means we actually have to fly it down from altitude. It won't even attempt it. Probably because it doesn't have auto-throttles like I was talking about before.

This weekend is going to be a good one for Amanda and I. There is a barbecue at one of the captain's homes on Friday, and a Company picnic on Saturday. I have a Security class that should end near noon on Saturday, and then we can hit the picnic, and then the zoo which is free. It will be great.

Mom, I just got a packet of flying agreements today. I will see what I can get you on. I am sure it won't be much over $50-$60. If nothing else Southwest ($60) will get you here, and TSA or another American Connection will get you to Chicago for free. That is roundtrip prices. Amanda's Mom flew on the EMB-145 the other day to Virginia. She said it was small. I am still excited to fly it. 45,000 lbs. That's plenty big after my last plane, the 2,300 lb Cessna 172.

Goodbye, and I will talk to you all later.

Lee,
Camping while it's cold? We were crazy last year and went camping with Timo and Becky's uncle during the winter. I froze all night and couldn't sleep! We had so much fun but it was terribly cold, I don't think I will camp again during the winter.

In my concert we played Brahms variations of Haydn. It had great oboe solos. It's sometimes called the concerto for oboe.

Anyways, there is a website to get games at discount prices but I can't remember the name. Keith, What is that website???

Talk to you later,
-AKH

White Grouse (aka Ptarmigan) is pretty darn good. I just ate one my co-worker killed last week in Lapland. It was the first grouse I ever ate. Melina was not too pleased at the feathers that escaped from the sink where I denuded it of its skin and downy coat, but I think we've rounded up the last of them. Duck is still better, but I'd eat another and not even complain. Matilda liked it, too. Owen had no opinion.

So what did you play at the concert, Amanda? (I know, the oboe, but what piece(s)?)

I actually held Princes of Florence in my grubby little hands today, but the 53e price tag ensured I put it back on the shelf. The box looked nice. The cardboard was top of the line and the art work first-class. Even the blurb on the bottom was well done. I think I will get it one of these days, but first I need to find a cheaper source. Too bad you all live too far away to play it with us.

I've been looking at camping equipment, too, but 4-season tent prices are scary. Maybe it's conditioning for the hair-raising experiences on the trail, but my heart could use a less strenuous workout. And since most of our other camping gear is in a Baltimore basement, we're starting pretty much from scratch. Maybe it's too ambitious this year. Anyway, only a madman would plan to camp in the winter here, right?

Well, anyway... Actually, I could post phone numbers and addresses on the generated webpage, if you'd like. Just send me them.

Amanda, enjoy St. Louis. The Cardinals might be playing the Diamondbacks on Saturday and Sunday. You can soak up the playoff atmosphere. But being from Atlanta, you're probably use to it.

Hi! This is Amanda. I had a concert tonight and Timo and Anneli came. It was lots of fun.

I talked to Keith tonight and I will be flying to St. Louis again to visit him. We had a great time when I was there two weekends ago. We went to the free museums and walked around downtown. I think we will be going to the zoo.

Lee you should get Princes of Florence. I love that game but Timo and I have not been real successful in beating Keith lately. We'll have to come up with some new strategys.

Anyways, talk to you all later.

Hey Keith, flying just isn't flying, unless you're a bird.

Just a technical note, to make a link to another website press the button by the Bold "B" on the right side of the screen. Paste the link into the textbox and press "OK". Then write the text you want as a link in front of the end "a" tag.

Matilda has her first loose tooth. She was very excited about it.

You guys can also check out http://www.embraer.com/english/ It has all the info on the Jets Trans States flies and wants to fly.

It is probably going to be a very boring plane to "fly", but it is so amazing it will be fun just to watch. The instruments are all on five big glass displays. The Flight Management System is incredible and can fly it from start to stop. We actually have to pull the throttle lever back for descent and landing and put out the flaps. So not 100% automated. But it cruises at 37,000 max. Generally over 30,000 even on short hops. That will be fun. And it is fast. Faster than a 737. I always knew the Airlines would not be exciting flying, but this airplane is pretty exciting. And it is a lot better than the ATR in the summer. This airplane actually has an APU(a little jet engine in the tail), that runs the electrical system and airconditioning. So it is always a nice climate in the airplane. It can be freezing cold or very warm in minutes. I think the APU generates enough air to fill the cabin with entirely new air in 3-5 minutes. The company is looking at 70-110 seat aircraft. They actually look like 737's. They are very nice and even faster than the one I am flying now. They fly at .8 mach. The EMB 145 flies at .78 mach.

That Carcassonne game sounds really fun. I would like to play it. You all should check out boardgamegeek.com I think that is the web site. It has the top games listed, and Settlers is there, Princes of Florence is there, and Carcassonne is there. All in the top ten, I think. There are many reviews to read.

Anyway, I will talk to you all later. Take care.-KJH
